Social Issue Organization

Our next task was to find two organizations that support/help our case. The two I found that are some of the biggest in the country are National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV).  When I went onto the website it was so helpful. They had numbers for every type of situation you could think of and links to those organizations websites. It  was very helpful and full of info. The second organization I found was National Domestic Violence Headline. Again this website was very helpful and full of information. They had stories from survivors and more numbers/organizations to call. They told you how to get out of an abusive relationship and much more. Now we have to write letters to these organizations.

Social Issues

Our last project for the year in English is social issues. We are tasked with finding a social issue to talk about, controversial or not. I decided on Domestic and Sexual abuse. I know that I can't change the world, but at least it would raise awareness and help encourage those in a situation that is harming them to speak up. I also want to change the perspective that if we see it we just think "oh, that's their problem they should take care of it", but instead encourage those who see it or experience it to speak up and help others get out of the situation.

Argue Essays

This week in class we were finishing up our argument essays. Then we had to write an argumentative essay on if the Redskins should have to change their name. The next day we ended up "grading" a few and boy was that stressful. I couldn't imagine being a teacher and deciding if a student fails or passes. It was interesting reading what other people had to say. But still really stressful grading!

Would you be able to grade your classmates papers?

Coming Home

Like at Christmas we were offered the chance to "bump" flights and receive vouchures, so of course we took them! My mom stayed on her flight to Minneapolis and my dad, brother, sister, and I flew to Cincinnati and then to Minneapolis. While some might complain about adding traveling time, it doesn't bother me one bit! Yes, I am going to miss sonwbaording till Christmas, but now I can get more chickens and ducks!!!!!!!

JackRabbit Win!

Yesterday after church my family (excluding my sister) drove down to Sioux Falls to watch the Summit League tournament. We were able to watch the last half of USD (Coyotes) vs Omaha (Mavericks). The Yotes ended up losing 64-58. My grandma isn't to happy with that, but I sure am. Then the SDSU (Jackrabbits) vs ORU ( Hawks). SDSU upset ORU with a 65-50 win. I'm hoping the Jacks can pull through to win the Championship! This was on Sunday and was the women's games that I watched.

Last night as I was watching the Jack men play the Coyotes (their rival) I was praying they would pull through. They were down by three with a minute to go. Surprisingly they pulled ahead to win 74-71! It was so tense watching the game. The Jack men will advance onto the final round.

Floating vs Land

I am trying to find plans to build a duck house, but I'm debating if I want it to be floating or not. My grandparents said that I could put some ducks in their pond at their lake house. They would just be something fun to have and help get rid of flies. i just don't know if I want it to be floating or not because they would still have access to land. There are just a lot of dogs and we don't want them to be constantly hurt or killed. Any suggestions?

Finished Jumping Standards

My grandpa and I were able to finish drilling the jumps yesterday and I'm thrilled at how they turned out. The  holes are a bit choppy but will work. We used a pinwheel pattern for the bases using 1"x4" although we wished we used 2"x4" for extra weight. Then for the posts we used 4x4  and used a 1/2" spade bit to drill the holes. The screws we used were 1 1/2".
P.S the cat is Maverick!

Presidents Weekend

Although we have not gotten off for the four day weekend, it starts tomorrow. So we don't have school tomorrow or Monday. Since my parents are gone my grandparents will be staying with us. My mom came up with the perfect idea that my grandpa and I build two sets of standards for jumping. I haven't told him yet, but I'm sure he'll jump onto that boat quickly. I'm so excited that O'll finally be able to start training for jumping this year!
What do you guys plan on doing this weekend?
